Moving from my IPhone 5S to the Galaxy S6 was
not an easy move though it was one that was needed as my iPhone had three problems.
Problem No.1 the small 4 inch screen which was quite annoying as I have
fat-fingers though the more severe problem was the fact that my screen would
touch all over the place! . No.3 I felt quite restricted in the IOS operating system.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 has some of the latest
networking technologies such as LTE Cat 6 which has upload speeds of 300mbps
and upload speeds up to 50 mbps which is quiet fast .The Wi-Fi is a dual-band
802.11a/b/g/ac with Wi-Fi direct and hotspot capabilities .The Wi-Fi strength
is so strong that I can get a single waiting for the lift approximately 15
meters away from my apartment.
The S6 is definitely slimmer and sleeker than
its predecessor and surprisingly lighter than its predecessor too. It
bears striking resemblances to the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 4s in terms of its
new aluminum unibody design and the rear panel which is made of gorilla corning
glass 4 .In my personal opinion Samsung did a great job with the design
though i really did not appreciate them copying apple's bezel design and it
really put me off.
The display is now a 1440x2560 5.1-inch
super AMOLED display with a whopping PPI of 577 pixels protected with the same
gorilla glass 4 protecting the rear of the phone. Though the screen does drain
a lot of power that was a nuisance at first though was solved by switching to
an all black background keeping it on power saving mode helps too.
The operating system is android 5 lollipop right
out of the box and features the latest touch wiz User interface which now has
considerably less lag though with most apps silently running in the background
the phone does tend to lag more often than my iPhone.
The phone has Samsung’s latest processor the
eight core Exynos 7420 .It utilizes the 14 nanometer manufacturing node which
allows the chip to be smaller and more power efficient .The Big. Little
architecture allows it to use a four cores at a time clocked at 1.5ghz and
2.1ghz respectively .The phone does have a lot of processing power though it
also has a Arm Mali T760 MP8 GPU which is a eight core GPU which goes perfectly
with the eight core COU .The phone is more than capable of playing AAA titles
such as asphalt 8 modern combat 5 or dungeon hunter 5 though it will generate a
modest amount of heat.
Memory, the phone finally got a upgrade to 3gb of
ram which is a DDR4 and not DDR3 such as the ones used in other flagships which
gives the Samsung Galaxy S6 a significant advantage .The storage is inbuilt in
my 32gb version though you get 115 Gb of cloud storage via the Microsoft one
drive which is sufficient for a everyday user. Though the S6 was stripped of
its Usb 3.0 it compensates with quick charge and faster flash speeds that are
unknown at this point of time. The wireless charging now supports QI and PMA
charging which is inbuilt into the phone.
The camera is now a smaller sensor which allows
better low light pictures than the iPhone 6+ though the camera is still a 16
megapixel camera .The optical image stabilizer turns a
Camera newbie such as myself into a pro
photographer .The camera also incorporates some basic flagship features such as
Geo-tagging; touch focus, face detection, auto HDR and panorama.
Battery, though most websites say its a 2550 mAh
5v battery it is actually a 1670 mAh battery rated at 9V. Though the battery
may be less it still gives over a day's usage in power saving mode while doing
a considerable amount of gaming .If you utilize gray scale mode you can get up
to 73 hours of battery life juiced out of the galaxy S6.
The price that I got my S6 was for 2600 Emirati
dirhams which is roughly 700 united states dollars .The price might be a bit
high considering this is an android phone though the price was justified
when I got freebies worth 1200 dirhams with my phone such as a skull candy headphones
(up rock 36$), power bank rated at 4000 mAh (Chinese brand less than 20 $) a
selfie stick (worth less than 10$) and a 16gb USB3.0 (worth 10 $). Though I was
happy with what I got.
Over all i think the S6 is a great phone and a
upgrade from my iPhone 5s though i do feel that the 32gb inbuilt memory is a
constraint from time to time it is acceptable in the long run .The android
experience is new though and has a bit of a learning curve in comparison to
learning apples IOS. Though the decision to buy the galaxy S6 is yours whether
you should choose to accept it!
